NFL Injuries Update - Robert Griffin III Could Miss Up To 8 Weeks; Other Victims In Week 2
Key stars suffered tough injuries in Week 2 action of the National Football League (NFL) regular season. While some are not serious, others are enough to worry the teams’ brass as absence for long stretches could doom their chances at making the playoffs even this early in the season
Below is the rundown of players who got hurt in NFL Week 2 and the their respective injuries after the second week of the season:
Robert Griffin III (quarterback, Washington Redskins) - Griffin suffered a dislocated left ankle in the Redskins’ 41-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. No MRI result yet but the star two-way QB could be out at least for two months basing on the type of injury. RG3 out for the season is not out of the question as well so Washington fans are more than worried that they will lose Griffin III again for the entire year.
Jamaal Charles (running back, Kansas City Chiefs) - The Chiefs lost 24-17 to the Denver Broncos and also Charles to a left ankle injury. The bad news for K.C. is that the ankle injury is of the “high” variety meaning it could be considered serious enough for him to miss 6 to 8 weeks.
A.J. Green (wide receiver, Cincinnati Bengals) - It is a minor injury (aggravated toe) and the MRI result was negative. Worse case scenario is that the veteran will miss at least one game.
Ryan Matthews (running back, San Diego Chargers) - A knee injury (sprained MCL) will put Matthews out of commission for at least a month. The injury occurred in the Chargers’ surprise win over the Seattle Seahawks, 30-21.
DeSean Jackson (wide receiver/return specialist, Washington Redskins) - In the same game against Jacksonville, the Redskins also lost Jackson to a left shoulder injury in the first quarter. The good news is that the injury is apparently not serious and Jackson is listed as day-to-day and still pegged to play against his former team Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3.
Knowshon Moreno (running back, Miami Dolphins) - Moreno injured his left elbow against the Buffalo Bills. The Dolphins lost the game, 29-10 and will lose the running back for at least four weeks.
Other notable injuries from Week 2 include:
Carson Palmer (quarterback, Arizona Cardinals) - shoulder
Eric Decker (wide receiver, New York Jets) - hamstring injury
Mercedes Lewis (tight end, Jacksonville Jaguars) - high left ankle sprain
Eric Berry (safety, Kansas City Chiefs) - sprained ankle
Vontaze Burfict (linebacker, Cincinnati Bengals) - neck
Alex Smith (tight end, Cincinnati Bengals) - left biceps

Charles Tillman (cornerback, Chicago Bears) - triceps
