The Minnesota Vikings won’t be releasing Adrian Peterson despite the strained relationship between the two sides and the controversies the star running back is involved in. The franchise officially told Peterson’s agent that they will hold on to Peterson in this offseason of the National Football League, or NFL.

Tom Pelissero, an NFL writer for USA Today Sports, is reporting that the team’s general manager, Rick Spielman had already told Peterson’s side that they are not cutting Peterson. Recent reports have stated that Peterson is hesitant to stay with the Vikings franchise because of what happened in the recent months between the two sides.

Earlier in the offseason, Peterson met with the Minnesota brass including GM Spielman and head coach Mike Zimmer to discuss the situation between the two sides and the possibility of a return to the team. Peterson walked away from multiple meetings without a commitment and in interviews admitted that going back to play for the Vikings in the upcoming 2015 NFL season will be “awkward”.

Peterson was involved in domestic abuse charges before the start of the 2014 NFL Season and has been suspended by the league but has since been reinstated. Peterson, without the off the field issues, is one of the top running backs in the league. He made the NFL Pro Bowl in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013.
