About a week after winning Super Bowl XLIX, the New England Patriots and Darrelle Revis are working on a contract extension in hopes of locking down the team’s top cornerback on a long-term deal.

"He's been everything and more since he's been here," Patriots president Jonathan Kraft, who as a guest in a radio show, said of Revis and his future deal with the club. "Hopefully both sides want to make a deal and we'll be able to get one done."

Before the start of the 2014 NFL Season, the 5-foot-11 Revis signed a one year deal worth $12 million, which includes a $10M signing bonus and $11.5M of which was guaranteed. Since the Patriots are expected to bring him back next season, Revis will have a cap hold of $25M against the salary cap in the 2015 season.

Both sides can renegotiate the contract while Revis looks for a long-term deal while the franchise hopes they get a friendlier contract to maximise the team’s salary cap. Revis was expected happy that he got his the NFL title this year.

In 16 games played in the regular season, the 29-year-old Revis was credited a total of 47 sacks, 41 and 6 assisted. Revis was one of the key defensive players for the Patriots in their 28-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX. Revis has played for the New York Jets from 2007 to 2012 before landing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013 and then the Patriots in 2014. He was the 14th overall pick by the Jets in the 2007 NFL Draft. Revis replaced Aqib Talib as the team's top corner before the season and it paid off in the NFL Playoffs.
