NFL News: Controversial 'Bully' Richie Incognito Signs Deal With Buffalo Bills
Since being involved in the bullying scandal with a Miami Dolphins’ teammate, Richie Incognito hasn’t played in a National Football League, or NFL, game. The free agent defensive guard is set to return to play in the league after agreeing to a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills for $2.25 million according to reports.
Incognito was accused of bullying Dolphins teammate Jonathan Martin in the middle of the 2013-2014 NFL season. The 31 year old guard, along with two other Dolphins John Jerry and Mike Pouncey, were found guilty of bullying Martin after an NFL investigation.
Incognito was suspended for the final eight games with the Dolphins last season. According to the NFL investigation, Incognito along with Jerry and Pouncey made several offensive remarks not only to teammate Martin but also other members of the Dolphins staff.
One such incident involved Incognito saying racial slurs against an assistant trainer. In a Sporting News poll in 2009, NFL players voted Incognito as the dirtiest player in the league.
NFL Network’s Jeff Darlington provided other details on the Incognito signing.
Two other teams, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Denver Broncos, were interested in signing Incognito but never came into a contract agreement. Incognito will go a physical test with the Dolphins before they can officially announce the signing. Incognito was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft or 81st overall. He stayed with the Rams until 2009 and also played previously with the Bills in 2009 before landing with the Miami Dolphins from 2010 to 2013. Incognito made the Pro Bowl selection in 2012.
The Bills were among the worst in the league in the guard position in the 2014 NFL season. Incognito will join the Bills guard crop of Kraig Urbik, Cyril Richardson and Erik Pears.
