The San Francisco 49ers are picking second, though there has been no mention on who they could possibly be targeting. They are in rebuilding mode, meaning new head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch can resort to anything.

Getting in new blood seems logical from the 2017 NFL Draft. But the problem right now is that no other player seems to carry promise other than Myles Garrett of Texas A&M. The Cleveland Browns are picking ahead of them, though the choice of Hue Jackson is likewise anyone’s guess.

The 49ers could strike it big if the Browns pass up on Garrett. He could be a great piece to the rebuilding efforts of San Francisco if Cleveland does the unthinkable. With the unwavering odds, Shanahan and Lynch could end up dangling the second pick to other teams, a trade that can only happen with the right assets on the table, KNBR reports.

Lynch said that they are open for business on a possible trade involving the second overall pick. They are willing to listen to trade offers so the right pitch could send the 2017 NFL Draft in disarray. There is a chance that the Browns and the 49ers end up trading their spots for marquee players or future picks instead.

A lot of that will depend on who covets Myles Garrett the most. The defensive end may be the only standout player in the coming draft, a player that may only be effective if he is paired with a proven quarterback. Both the Browns and 49ers apparently don’t have someone of that calibre, which could be enough reason for a trade to go down.

If not a particular player, the 49ers could trade for multiple picks in later rounds. There are some players who deserve a chance so some could fill up the roster spots open on Shanahan’s end. Among the positions that need to be filled include the quarterback, linebacker and offensive line, NFL.com reports.

The Browns are reportedly considering North Carolina Mitchell Trubisky to address their quarterback needs. The move has gotten mixed criticism, with most believing that passing up Garrett could be a costly move.

The scenario right now is that the Browns and 49ers find themselves in a position where their needs may not be immediately addressed. Wasting their slots on unheralded players over Garrett would be foolish. The best recourse right now is to dangle that spot for someone that they can immediately use.
