NHL player, Derek Boogaard found dead at 28
The death of the NHL forward has shocked the sports community.
New York Rangers forward, Derek Boogaard was found dead in his apartment by members of his family. No details on the causes of death have been released by the NHL and his family yet but official results are expected after the autopsy is conducted. Known as Boogy to his friends, he was 28.

A tweet by Larry Brooks of the New York Post said that the Hockey player was receiving counseling
Brooks tweeted: “Post has learned that Derek Boogaard was receiving counseling through NHL/NHLPA Behavorial Health/Substance Abuse Program at time of death.”
Boogard noted AceShowbiz joined the New York Rangers less than a year ago and had appeared in 22 games in the 2010-2011 season. The NHL forward had missed several games of the regular season after he suffered from concussion and shoulder injury.
"Derek was an extremely kind and caring individual," New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather was quoted by Yahoo Sports.
He added: "He was a very thoughtful person, who will be dearly missed by all those who knew him. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends and teammates during this difficult time."
The NHL Players Association (NHLPA) also released a statement following his death Friday, May 13th.
It said: "The NHLPA is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Derek Boogaard. Derek was a well-liked and respected member of the NHLPA, and his passing is a great loss to the entire hockey community. Our sincere condolences to Derek's many friends and family during this difficult time."
The National Hockey League Commissioner’s office has also nothing but good words for the young athlete.
"The news that we have lost someone so young and so strong leaves everyone in the National Hockey League stunned and saddened. The NHL family sends its deepest condolences to all who knew and loved Derek Boogaard, to those who played and worked with him and to everyone who enjoyed watching him compete," Commissioner Gary Bettman of the National Hockey League was quoted as saying by the AceShowbiz.
