‘Thor blasts to top US box office for second straight weekend
The epic by Marvel studio blasts its way to stay atop the box office chart, hammering its new comer rivals including Bridesmaid, which made the strongest first opening weekend among the new entries.
Looks like the Universal studio has made the right choice to pick Thor star, Chris Hemsworth as the protector for Snow White as the Huntsman in Snow White and the Huntsman as Thor has topped the U.S. box office for the second straight weekend protecting the earth.
The epic by Marvel studio blasts its way to stay atop the box office chart, hammering its new comer rivals including Bridesmaids, which made the strongest first opening weekend among the new entries.
According to film trackers, Thor has made nearly $35 million since its opening Friday and for the second straight weekend has dominated the North American box office. Citing the data from tracker company, Exhibitor Relations, the Agence France Presse estimated its total earnings now at $120 million for its first two weekends.
Starring Australian newcomer actor, Chris Hemsworth, Thor was helmed by actor-director Kenneth Branagh, who made a surprising comeback in the epic film about an epic hero who was banished to earth by his enemies at the mystical world Asgard.
Thor then had no choice to protect the earth from his enemies as they found his way to destroy his second home. Chris stars opposite Natalie Portman portraying the character of an astrophysicist who found Thor as he dropped the earth in one of her expeditions.
Top two in the U.S. box office is the new entry, Bridesmaids which reportedly earned $$24.4. This is a comedy about a group of women preparing for their wedding.
Taking the third spot is Fast Five starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson earning $19.5 million in its third week in the U.S. The heist film remains strong at the box office after breaking record for opening week for the year at $86 million in its opening week.
Rounding up the top four and five are Priest and Rio respectively. Priest, starring Paul Bettany who plays the lead role hunting vampires reportedly opened at $14.5 million while Rio raked in $8 million over the weekend and now has a reported earnings at $125 million in its five weeks in theaters.
Final results for the weekend box office will be available Monday.
