Nigella Lawson, Charles Saatchi Italian Assistants Claim Treated 'Worse Than Filipino Slaves' [VIDEO]
How Saatchi’s Finance Officer Rajul Gajjar Recalls Italian Sister Comparing themselves To 'Filipino Slaves'
The Italian sisters who have worked as personal assistants to former celebrity couple Charles Saatchi and Nigella Lawson claimed that they have been “treated worse than Filipino slaves.”
The Isleworth Crown Court in West London heard Thursday, Nov. 28 the testimony made by Charles Saatchi’s Finance Director Rahul Gajjar referring to Italian sisters, Elizabetta and Francesca Grillo, who contended that they were “treated worse than Filipino slaves” by the former celebrity couple.
Gajjar’s statement was given to the court recalling the confrontation he had with Elizabetta, 41 and Francesca, 25.
The multi-millionaire’s finance officer recalled the reaction he got from the Italian sisters when he confronted them over the alleged use of the couple’s credit card for their personal use.
Gajjar said the sisters were first apologetic for spending an estimated $1.24 million on a luxury lifestyle, according to the Sydney Morning Herald (SMH).
SMH noted during their employment to the celebrity couple, Francesca spent an average £48,000 while £28,000 for Elisabetta. Both sisters have been spending an average of £8,000 a month, according to Saatchi’s finance director.
The Grillo sisters were allowed to continue working for Saatchi and Lawson, even permitted to stay at the apartment owned by the celebrity TV chef for free.
But the celebrity couple would not let the Italian sisters off the hook with their spending on luxury items. They were informed that they would pay for the amount they spent using the company credit card.
When told by the finance officer the parameters by which the Grillo sisters would pay back what they spent on luxury items and plane tickets, Gajjar told the West London court that the personal assistants did not take the news too well.
"Lisa was against the proposal and I remember a reference to 'We're being treated worse than Filipino slaves'," Gajjar was quoted as telling the Isleworth court by the Sydney Morning Herald.
Saatchi and Lawson decided to go to the authorities and filed the complaint against their former personal assistants when they failed come up with an agreement with the Grillo sisters.
The former celebrity couple later hurled fraud charges against Elizabetta and Francesca.
The Italian sisters reportedly spent millions of dollars on luxury items such as Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Vivienne Westwood and Christian Dior. They were also believed using the company credit card when purchasing plane tickets. The Grillo sisters denied the claims made by the couple.
Saatchi and Lawson had made headlines early this year when the art dealer was snapped choking the celebrity TV chef while dining at their favorite restaurant. They got married in 2003.
