Nina Dobrev As Elena Gilbert: Her Exit From 'The Vampire Diaries' To Be Influenced By Damon Salvatore's Decision

With only a few episodes left until the much-anticipated season six finale on May 14, “The Vampire Diaries” fans are on the verge of their seats as they wait to find out how Nina Dobrev’s character Elena Gilbert will be making her exit. The latest episode ended with Damon Salvatore, played by Ian Somerhalder, having to make a difficult decision regarding his future with Gilbert.

In TVD’s episode 19 entitled “Because,” Stefan (Paul Wesley), who recently got his humanity back, engaged in a mission with friends Elena and Damon to cure Caroline (Candice Accola) of her vampirism and to eventually stop her from her rampaged killing spree. Caroline, however, would not back down without a fight – as she was being locked up while the three tried to talk some sense into her, she turned the tables on Damon and Elena and made them think about where their relationship was going, IBTimes stated.

Following the series of heartbreaking events that transpired in the episode, Damon, who had the vampire cure, and Elena finally talked about what the future holds for them. Damon has said earlier that he was okay with being a vampire for the rest of eternity, and Elena was forced to oblige because she just wanted to be with him, even though she had fantasies about what their lives would be if they were not vampires.

Damon then admitted that he feared he would lose Elena if she took the cure, which is why he was not going to offer it to her. Elena then decided that they should give the cure to someone else, however, Damon later realized that he could not let Elena give up the human life she wanted.

He was then subjected to make an excruciating decision that will affect the rest of his life – whether or not to take the cure with her. “I don’t want to face my future without you. I’ll become human too,” Damon said. The episode then ends, leaving fans to wonder if the couple would really proceed to take the cure.

TVLine then revealed a few spoilers regarding Damon’s options. “We can’t confirm that Elena will end her run as a human or a vampire, but know this: Damon’s decision to share the cure with her (or not) will result in a “massive fallout” — not just for Elena, but for everyone on the show, according to executive producer Caroline Dries,” the site stated. Damon’s decision will furthermore influence Dobrev’s exit from the series.

“The Vampire Diaries” airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on CW. Next week’s episode will determine if both Damon and Elena will opt for a human life together. The season six finale will air on May 14.
