Nintendo files for patent that could see new feature for future console
Nintendo has been known to introduce some of the best innovations in console gaming ever since it pioneered motion-controlled gaming with the Wii. Since then, it has been upping up the ante with unique features including the Gamepad for the Wii U and the 3D capabilities of the 3DS. Now, a new Nintendo patent reveals another innovation which the company could introduce to the NX.
Nintendo recently filed a patent application for a console that does not contain any optical disc drive. Many speculate that the upcoming patent could be a piece of Nintendo’s next console and it could also be a preview of what the next console could be capable of.
The patent was filed last February but was just published last Thursday. The patent displays a diagram which shows a card slot, wherein a memory card that could contain programs is inserted. Aside from that, the patent also shows an internal hard drive and a socket for connecting an external hard drive.
Polygon reports that it was NeoGAFfers who saw the patent first. The patent could see the resurrection of a cartridge-based console which was last seen in the Nintendo 64, a console that was released nearly 20 years ago. However, what’s available to see now is just a rough draft of what’s to come. It is not yet clear what programs the memory card could store, or whether or not the device is capable of downloading games from a digital service to the hard drive. So fans will have to wait for news from Nintendo.
Just last March, Nintendo has revealed that it is working on a new gen console which is currently called as the NX. Since the announcement, Nintendo is yet to release any clear details on what the console could bring, but the company promised that it would reveal the console next year. With the new patent, fans could see yet another innovation from the gaming company.
