Nintendo Rewards Program detailed in the midst of Nintendo NX hype and low profits
Nintendo has previously promised that it will introduce a new loyalty program for its fans. It appears that the Japanese company may be looking at releasing the said program as early as March this year.
The program was part of the presentation during the Nintendo shareholder’s meeting. DualShockers obtained a copy of the presentation, which hinted at a worldwide launch come March. Dubbed as the My Nintendo program, this rewards program is looking at a points style system that will be two-tiered.

Platinum and Gold points will be replacing the previous Club Nintendo coins. These will then be used in terms of purchases and discounts, in the same way that the Club Nintendo coins were used. Gold Points appear to be more premium, as these are the ones associated with the discounts.
Platinum Points are easier to earn, such as through eShop and Nintendo site browsing and playing Nintendo games. The rewards that can be obtained are a little smaller, such as getting product that are themed for Nintendo. The latter mechanic is meant for both Nintendo fans and guests, so they will be able to feel like valued customers in using the program.
The initial plan is to launch the My Nintendo Program in 39 countries. The company plans to expand this over time, as the fan base for Nintendo also expands.
Despite the progression of Nintendo’s loyalty rewards plan, not everything is going well with the company in general. Recently, Nintendo has released its financials, and it appears that the company has experienced a dip in profits. BBC reported that the net income for the period from September to December was 36 percent lower when compared to 2014.
The decrease in profits may now be one of the reasons why the company is pushing for new programs, as well as new devices. Its Nintendo NX console is expected sometime this year. In terms of sales of games, Nintendo has also not gotten the best figures, so much so that even the usual bestsellers like “Splatoon” and “Super Mario Maker” did not pose good sales. This is taking into account the fact that the quarter had included the holiday season of 2015.
Still, the year is just starting for Nintendo. With the anticipation for the Nintendo NX console at its height and the introduction of the new My Nintendo Program, things can still turn around for the Japanese company.
