Nokia Lumia 800: Microsoft Temporarily Stopped Windows Phone 7.8 Update Due to Minor Issues
Nokia confirms the decision of Microsoft to temporarily stop the Windows Phone 7.8 update for Nokia Lumia 800 as well as the Lumia 900, Lumia 710 and Lumia 610 smart phones due to some minor issues encountered. The live tiles pinned on the Nokia smart phones reportedly causes the problems on battery drainage and data update failure.
Username "Heathcliff74" of WP7RootTools shared the problem he encountered after using the Windows Phone 7.8 update. Heathclif74 stated: "Another thing I had noticed right after the update to WP 7.8 was that one of the pinned live tiles was empty. I did not really pay further attention to it and I assumed the app would be updated soon enough if this was a real problem. But now I realized that live-tiles needed to be updated and not much else are using data at that moment."
"Microsoft has identified a minor issue in the Windows Phone 7.8 update and have temporarily paused delivery until it's addressed. We'll have more information as it becomes available," Ray Haddow, the Nokia UK Communications Senior Manager, declared in a released statement.
Mark Chamberlain Sr., the Microsoft Developer Support's Escalation Engineer, also commented on the Windows Phone 7.8 update issues at the Windows Phone Development Forums. "Searching around the web, the issue of live tiles not updating has been corrected sometimes by blocking all the background tasks in Settings > applications > background tasks and setting the checkbox for those apps that you wish to restart the next time you start the app," Chamberlain stated.
The Microsoft Engineer acknowledged the two minor update issues currently at hand. The first issue is the live tile causing continuous web requests which in turn results to battery drainage and the second issue is the live tile failing to update properly.
Mark Chamberlain Sr. assured the Nokia device users that the Windows Phone 7.8 updating issues will be repaired in their next update. However, Microsoft did not confirm how long the repair will take place after the temporary suspension of the Windows Phone 7.8 update on the Nokia Lumia 800 and other Lumia smart phones.
