Novak Djokovic Bonded With Roger Federer About Parenthood Before They Head To ATP World Tour Finals In London
A father usually has no clue about what to do after the birth of his first child. Novak Djokovic didn't need a guidebook to decipher the immensely challenging world of fatherhood. The Serb and current World No. 1 has talked to Roger Federer about parenthood and the Swiss has tons of tips for him so he can manage the transition as a first-time parent.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Djokovic revealed that Federer was the first player to congratulate him for the birth of his first child. He said that Federer, who has two sets of twins, can "identify" with what he is going through.
"I'm still far off from him," Djokovic said. "With four kids, it's pretty amazing to still play at such a high level as he does," he added.
According to Djokovic, he knows how raising one child is hard work, so for Federer having four kids, it is more than twice as hard. He said that he got the chance to talk to Federer in China and Paris and took advice from the 17-time Grand Slam champion about travelling with family. Djokovic is optimistic that he can pull it off well as Federer does.
Djokovic's wife Jelena gave birth to Stefan in October so it wouldn't be proper for the baby to be on the road with him, the Serb said. By 2015, Djokovic and his wife will start planning about what is best for their little bundle of joy. He said it is their top priority. He said he wants to be there for his son.
Djokovic is in London for the season-ending tournament of the season. He will face US champion Marin Cilic, whom he has a perfect head-to-head record 10-0, on November 11. Their last meeting was in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Wimbledon Championships, where the Croat has managed to push the game to five sets, 6-1 3-6 6-7(4) 6-2 6-2.
In other matches, Federer avenged his loss against Milos Raonic on Day 1 of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals at the O2 Arena. Federer defeated Raonic in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6 (0). Kei Nishikori upset Andy Murray and earned his first career win over the Scot, 6-4, 6-4.
