Novak Djokovic reveals secret to successful season
Novak Djokovic added another impressive victory in his already remarkable season after claiming a record sixth ATP 1000 Masters this year title following his 6-2 6-4 win over World No. 2 Andy Murray. According to “Djoker” himself, his mindset all throughout the season is to reach for “excellence.”
Djokovic grabbed his fourth Paris Masters title in just 90 minutes of match time against Murray, who made too many unforced errors. The victory puts the Serb as the first player to reach 14 consecutive Tour finals in a calendar year.
Djokovic is already enjoying one of the most successful years in tennis history. The 10-time Grand Slam winner has not lost since the Cincinnati final in August, where he was defeated by Roger Federer in the final round. But for Djokovic, staying on a steady phase in his illustrious tennis career is not an option for him despite his record-breaking season.
“I try to work on my game all the time, because I know that the only way I can stay successful is to continue progressing,” Djokovic said, reports ATP World Tour’s official website. “I'm not trying to keep the status quo, because for me, that's a regression.”
With a third consecutive victory at the BNP Paribas Masters, Djokovic is the overwhelming favourite to win the ATP World Tour Finals in London later this month, where he will be joined by Federer, Andy Murray, and Rafael Nadal.
However, the Serb champ does not seem to entertain the idea of slowing down and ending the season on a high. Djokovic confessed that he has reached his “peak” experience-wise and improved his game through learning from his mistakes.
"I'm still determined to improve, to get better,” Djokovic said, reports Yahoo Sports. “Nobody can be perfect, but, you know, if you are going for the perfection, you might reach excellence.”
