‘The OA’ co-creator Brit Marling shares inspiration for the story
“The OA” co-creator and lead actor Brit Marling (Prairie) has been teasing fans with details about the sophomore season of the series, saying she and co-creator Zal Batmanglij already know how it is going to start and end. In one of her latest interviews, the actress has opened up about her inspiration for the show.
In “The OA”, Marling plays the role of a blind woman who decided to look for her father on her 21st birthday and chose to not let her adoptive family know. Unsurprisingly, the inspiration behind “The OA” is a woman too.
Marling has shared that she met a young woman at a party and she could not help but notice her incredible energy. She also described her as open and still.
She’s the type of woman who would lend an ear when someone’s talking. “I was like, ‘What is up with this girl?” Marling told People. She said the unnamed woman is just so engaged and alive in a different way.
When they started talking, the woman has shared to her that she had a near-death experience. Marling recalled the woman confessing that she was in a hospital and she flat-lined and left her body.
The woman was able to look at her body from above and decided to return to her body. “When she described that, I thought, ‘This makes sense,” Marling said. She said the woman’s experience is something that makes her life different. Her story has also inspired “The OA.”
Aside from her role in “The OA,” Marling is also known for being a Sundance star with the Searchlight movies “Sound of My Voice” (2011), “Another Earth” (2011) and “The East” (2013). “The OA” is executive produced by Brad Pitt and his production company, Plan B. Fans in Australia can catch “The OA” season 1 on Netflix.
