Sony announced before that the Xperia Tablet S will receive an update of Android Jelly Bean OS but without any certainty. Now, the update that owners have waited for is finally rolling out, bringing 4.1 Jelly Bean goodness.

The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is now commencing, and owners must be patient till the upgrade push reached your devices or if any manual procedure for the Sony PC Companion becomes available.

As usual, what Jelly Bean features is expected from the latest update? Here are some new things you'll see on your Xperia Tablet S once updated.

  • Google Now
  • Project Butter
  • WalkMan, Album and Movies support DLNA controller function
  • Movie app supports CC or Closed Captioned video from Video Unlimited
  • Album and Camera apps UI improvement
  • TV SideView added
  • Scrapbook new functions: clip widget and map clipping

To get the update for Xperia Tablet S, check your internal storage of it has 300MB free space for the installation. Go to your Settings > Storage > Internal Storage or USB Storage > Available. Transfer apps to your SD card or uninstall them to free some space.

How to Install the New Update

1. Connect the tablet to the AC power and to a stable Wi-Fi network.

2. Wait for the "System Update" icon on the notifications bar. If there is one, an update is available for your device.

3. Tap "Home" key and select the "Apps & Widgets" icon.

4. In the Apps & Widgets screen, tap the "Settings" icon then select "About Tablet."

5. Select "System Update." If the display says "currently up to date", no update is necessary, tap "OK" to finish.

6. Never disconnect the device from the AC power or Wi-Fi during the download and installation. "Failed to download the update" means that the device lost power or lost an Internet connection, re-establish them to proceed.

7. Once the system update completes downloading, select "Restart to update."

8. Tap "OK" to confirm the update. Be sure to create backup of your files and personal information in case you'll need to bring them back into the tablet.

Xperia P and Xperia Go are going to receive their Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates soon as their firmware undergo final phase. According to their Twitter account, the update should be released soon.

"Just a quick update to say we hear you re: JB 4.1 for Xperia P & Go (S, SL, across S, and ion). Work's in v.final stage - more news next week," said the tweet from Sony Xperia News @SonyMobileNews.
