In the finale episode of “Once Upon A Time” Season 4, Emma Swan sacrifices herself in order to contain the darkness that controlled Rumplestiltskin for centuries. It turns out that Merlin himself had once tethered this dark entities into a single dagger to control the infinite damage it could inflict. It is up to Merlin to liberate Emma Swan now.
In a TV Line report, the role of Merlin is described as “a black [male] Brit in his early 30s to early 40s.” This man exemplifies “great wisdom and intelligence beyond his years.” In contrast, the role of King Arthur is depicted to be “a master manipulator who can carry a grudge to the grave.” He should also be a man with a British accent.
While details are scarce on whether Merlin and King Arthur would surface in Storybrooke, the same report mentioned Camelot in connection to Guinevere. The lovestruck female character, who is also a “headstrong queen,” will be cast to “a Latina in her mid-20s to mid-30s.”
Meanwhile, Rebecca Mader and Sean Maguire, who play Zelena and Robin Hood, respectively, become series regulars in “Once Upon A Time” Season 5. Zelena is currently pregnant with Robin Hood’s baby, and Regina has come to terms with it.
More teasers and spoilers from the cast are expected to stream in once the series begins filming. Showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz chose to have three “Queens of Darkness” for OUAT Season 4, but they have yet to categorize heroes and villains for Season 5.
