The boys of the now-foursome One Direction teased on their upcoming fifth album, the first one they will be working on post-Zayn Malik. Liam Payne dished a few details on their new record’s sound, which would apparently try to channel more of the Brit-pop artists Oasis and Ed Sheeran.

In an interview with Capital FM on Monday, Payne told 1D fans that recording for the new album has been going really well. “The boys we've been writing with have come up with some great, great songs that are kind of like a bit Oasis-y almost which is ace,” he said, as quoted by Billboard.

The singer also added that the band is trying to work on a more “long-lasting” sound that could be played for the next generations to come. The group is known to have embraced rock influences with each album release, and now they have made their songs “a bit more chill” because they believed that people liked to listen to those kind of tunes any time of the day. "You like how Ed [Sheeran']s album, anytime you can throw on an Ed song and it can always make sense. We're trying to do that,” Payne revealed.

Payne, together with band mates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan returned to the studio earlier this month to begin their follow-up album to 2014’s chart-topping “Four.” They first teased about their new music on social media mid-April, saying they would be a little more experimental.

The popular boyband’s new record is apparently shaping up to be quite electric as both Payne and Tomlinson were seen in the studio with Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger and Juicy J earlier this year, Capital FM reported. It will be the boys’ first offering as a four-piece following the departure of Malik back in March, and is rumored to be released by Christmas this year.
