Apple's Electronic payment via near-field communications (NFC) will have to wait for the iPhone 6, one analyst said. That likely will happen on the first half of 2014, according to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster.

In a new note he issued last week, Mr Munster has indicated that the iPhone 5S will not be able to wait for Apple to perfect the NFC-enabled payment facility that Samsung is set to start rolling out later this year.

The safest bet, the analyst added, would be on the initial months of 2014, which makes the rumoured Apple phablet, the 4.8-inch iPhone 6, the first recipient of the new iPhone offering that analysts have lumped with the so-called iPhone killer features.

He added that for the system to function smoothly, Apple may require until 2015 to actually unleash a technology that is entirely different from the services being developed by the tech giant's chief rival - Samsung.

The whole equation that Apple will include on its iOS ecosystem requires more work on the following considerations: retail partnership, mobile advertisement and security, the latter already in the final stages of development, the analyst noted.

With the purchase of AuthenTec last year, Apple has acquired the ability to assure the possible hundreds of millions to enrol on the company's digital wallet payment facilities that the system will enjoy robust security.

In essence, Apple will have to repackage NFC-enabled payment just so to distinguish it from the rest, which should redound well for the tech titan, in terms of realising more possibilities for revenue generation, Mr Munster said.

"If Apple can recreate the wallet, it would create tremendous stickiness in terms of iOS mobile products," the Piper Jaffray analyst was reported by CNET as saying.

Apple, in fact, has a good thing going when it comes to attracting good fortunes via the digital wallet that will come with upcoming iPhone models, Mr Munster said, pointing to the estimated 500 million users currently registered on iTunes.

Those numbers alone dwarf any given online processing payment firms, PayPal including, Mr Munster said.

Reports suggest that the iPhone 5S and its cheaper version will be unveiled June 20 and its release date to follow on the first week of July.

Experts, however, have expressed doubt that the iPhone 5S will deliver the much-awaited upgrades that Apple fans have been anticipating. Instead, fingerprint sensors and NFC-payment will possibly make it on the bigger iPhone 6.
