'Orange Is the New Black' season 5 update: Release date announced, teaser out for the upcoming season
Netflix original series “Orange Is the New Black” is all set to return for a fifth instalment. A teaser has just been out, showing the entire Litchfield squad together. The “Orange Is the New Black” season 5 is slated for a worldwide Netflix release on June 9, 2017.
One of the most-watched Netflix original series, “Orange Is the New Black” (“OITNB”), has been renewed for its sixth and seventh seasons. Creator Jenji Kohan will be the showrunner for the upcoming three seasons of the show. “OITNB” is being produced by Lionsgate.
After the shocking turn of events in the season 4 finale, plot details for the fifth instalment have been kept completely under the wraps. One of the inmates was killed and Daya (Dascha Polanco) got hold of a gun. Meanwhile, Danielle Brooks (Taystee) told E! Online last month that the new season will wind up over a three-day span. She also added that season 5 will have a “very detailed” and a “very intense” storyline.
A storm is coming for the ladies of Litchfield in “Orange Is the New Black” season 5, per the Hollywood Reporter (THR). The 14-second teaser gives viewers a glimpse of the collective mood of the prisoners next season. Also, the teaser shows one of the iconic cast members missing, according to the report. THR later confirmed that while Sophia Burset (Laverne Cox) is missing in the teaser, she will still be on season 5.
Original series characters can be seen in the teaser portraying emotions ranging from shock, fear and rage. The teaser includes Alex (Laura Prepon), Piper (Taylor Schilling), Nicky (Natasha Lyonne), Flaca (Jackie Cruz), Taystee (Danielle Brooks), Lorna (Yael Stone), Cindy (Adrienne C. Moore), Maria (Jessica Pimentel), Red (Kate Mulgrew) and Gloria (Selenis Leyva). From what is shown, “Orange Is the New Black” season 5 will take off from the cliffhanger at the end of season 4 finale.
Aside from “Orange Is the New Black,” another show is set for release this year. Talk show “Bill Nye Saves the World,” hosted by Science Guy himself, will premiere on April 21. The show will feature special guests including Zach Braff, Rachel Bloom, Tim Gunn, Joel McHale and Wil Wheaton. Nye will also be conducting experiments and demonstrations to support his arguments, Variety reported.
“We address social issues from a scientific perspective,” Nye said at a Netflix press event in New York. “It’s a lot of fun.” All 13 episodes of the show will be available for streaming by April 21. Watch the "Orange Is the New Black" season 5 online exclusive on Netflix from June 9.
