"The Originals" Season 1 finale episode served as a preview of what will happen when the CW spinoff series return for a brand new Season 2. The finale episode showed the return of four Mikaelson family members - one, even though in an appearance only, is willing to help Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and his baby daughter while the other three terrifying Mikaelsons are set to bring trouble and fear in New Orleans.
Spoiler alert: This feature contains major spoilers on "The Originals" Episode 22 titled "From a Cradle to a Grave." The finale episode begins with Hayley's (Phoebe Tonkin) dream sequence with Klaus while writing a letter to her unborn child.
Back to reality, Klaus arrived at the church to watch Hayley give birth to their hybrid daughter while pinned against the wall, thanks to the witches. Genevieve (Elyse Levesque), who is ready to kill the child in order to fulfill what the witch Ancestors want, took the baby while Monique (Yasmine Al Bustami) slashed Hayley's throat. Elijah (Daniel Gillies) also arrived at the church to see Klaus cradling Hayley's dead body.
Davina (Danielle Campbell) performed a spell that collects Klaus' blood from his brawl with Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) in order to save the vampire from the werewolf bite. However, Marcel decided that Josh (Steven Krueger) should drink Klaus' blood first.
Marcel is set to find Klaus and get more blood to save more vampires. Cami (Leah Pipes) told Marcel that he needs a weapon to do that and she happens to have it in Father Kieran's (Todd Stashwick) secret room.
Klaus and Elijah are now on a mission to find the baby before the witches complete the sacrifice. The Mikaelson brothers are having a hard time locating the witches because they have created a huge illusion of the cemetery.
While the witches are preparing for the sacrifice, Davina performed the spell that can bring vampire hunter Mikael (Sebastian Roché) back to life. Klaus and Elijah were still searching for the witches when Hayley showed up after being temporarily dead.
It turns out the baby's blood is in Hayley's system when she died and now Hayley is in hybrid transition. Hayley just needs to drink her daughter's blood in order to complete the transition.
Hayley declared that she can feel her baby. Klaus, Elijah and Hayley were able to locate the witches and Elijah managed to stop Genevieve from stabbing the newborn child. Monique and Abigail (Alexa Yeames) stopped the attack using their powers combined with the Ancestors.
Hayley vented out her anger on Genevieve, Klaus killed Abigail and Marcel came to the rescue when he killed Monique with the weapon from Father Kieran's secret room before the witch could stab the baby. Marcel took the baby to bring Klaus to the French Quarter and save the attacked vampires.
Klaus and Marcel thought the werewolves were responsible but they had no idea that it was Mikael who finished off the vampires to satisfy his hunger. The two finally buried the hatchet with Marcel apologizing to Klaus for bringing back Mikael and Klaus giving his blood to cure Marcel and swearing that together they will take down whoever is responsible for the tragic deaths.
Mikael was set to kill Klaus but Davina's spell had the Mikaelson patriarch bound to her. The young witch brought Mikael back to the church attic and she plans to keep him there as her secret weapon against Klaus.
Genevieve was chained up and tried to explain herself to Elijah and Hayley. Genevieve revealed that killing the child was the Ancestors' decree. When Elijah asked her whose decree it was, Genevieve further revealed that it was none other than mommy dearest, Esther Mikaelson (Alice Evans).
According to Genevieve, the witches will never stop hunting the baby until the hybrid child is killed. Genevieve wanted Elijah and Hayley to tell Klaus that she is sorry. An upset Hayley came up to Genevieve, stabbed her to death and told her that she is not sorry. With Genevieve dead, the fourth witch from the Harvest ritual will be resurrected.
Meanwhile, Klaus is aware that his enemies will be after his daughter to get back at him. Elijah suggested they could fight together as a family or leave but Klaus insisted that even though they leave, his enemies will not stop hunting them down.
Then, Hayley gave the heartbreaking option of sending away the child to protect her while the adults fix up the mess that they created. Klaus agreed and to ensure that no one will find out about his daughter's identity and existence, they faked her death.
Marcel took part in the cover up by making werewolf Oliver (Chase Coleman) believe his pack killed Klaus' child. To complete her transition, Hayley drank her child's blood before sending her away. Klaus decided to give the baby to the person that he knows he can trust despite their differences, his sister Rebekah (Claire Holt).
Rebekah promised that she will take care and protect her niece. "What's her name?" Rebekah asked and Klaus responded that it is "Hope." At the cemetery, Cassie (Natalie Dreyfuss), the fourth Harvest witch, did come back to life with a companion.
Cassie placed a rose on a grave while her male companion stood next to her. "Come along, we have much to do," Cassie stated and her male companion simply answered "Yes, mother." The ending scene revealed the grave was Esther's and the male companion was her son Finn Mikaelson.
