Spoiler Alert: This feature contains major spoilers on "The Originals" Season 2, episode 3 titled "Every Mother's Son."
Klaus receives a dinner invitation from Esther so the Mikaelson siblings and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) started to make preparations "for the worst." The preparations also included a search for a cooperative witch that could help them with Esther's troublesome tendency to jump in another body.
Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) tells newbie vampire Gia (Nishi Munshi) to accompany Elijah (Daniel Gillies) to a witch named Lenore (Sonja Sohn). Marcel expects Elijah to be a mentor to the newly turned vampire but Elijah is still reluctant to accept the responsibility.
At Rosseau's, Oliver (Chase Coleman) is expecting Cassie (Natalie Dreyfuss) to meet him but it was Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood) who showed up instead. Vincent gives Oliver a moonlight ring and shows the werewolf what will happen if his pack denies Cassie's requests through magic and pain. "That ring comes at a price and you'll begin paying for it today," Vincent or Finn Mikaelson stated.
A flashback scene shows a young Klaus hiding in fear because of Mikael's (Sebastian Roché) anger. Esther finds Niklaus in the woods and reveals what she does when she gets afraid in order to calm her son.
Klaus finally reveals Esther's secret to Hayley. Klaus' birth father was the werewolf that killed his younger brother Henrik and Mikael found out about it. Esther did not only lose two children but also a lover when Mikael killed Klaus' real father.
Elijah finally meets Lenore and asks her to help in finding a way to know which body will Esther jump into the next time. The witch tells Elijah that it can be done with a sacrificial spell but they must use an enchanted item from Esther and a phyton. After Elijah and Gia left, Finn/Vincent shows up at Lenore's store.
Klaus shows up at Marcel's place to ask for the necklace that he gave him in the past. A flashback scene reveals the story behind Klaus' starling necklace. Esther gave it to Niklaus as a gift and asked him to wear it all the time. "If ever you are lost or scared or in need of me, just clasp the bird and I will come," Esther told young Klaus.
Marcel wants to know why Klaus wants the necklace that his mother gave him. "Believe me Marcel, you want no part in the latest chapter of our sprawling family saga," Klaus responds.
Esther wants Oliver to handle Lenore, the witch that they have captured, so Finn told the werewolf to "persuade" Lenore in revealing what Elijah wanted from her. As for Kaleb/Kol (Daniel Sharman), Finn reveals that his brother is still looking for Davina (Danielle Campbell). Klaus, Hayley and Elijah finds out from their werewolf spy, Oliver, that Lenore is being held captive so Hayley decides to go on a staged rescue mission first before the witch could perform the spell.
Klaus and Elijah are still preparing the dinner table when Finn arrived and revealed his identity. The dinner started with Finn discussing about how Esther changed him and even Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic). According to Finn, Esther managed to make the wildest of the Mikaelson siblings see the error of his ways.
Esther arrives to put a stop to the heated discussion between the Mikaelson siblings particularly with Finn getting daggered for a really long time. However, the Mikaelson family dinner further spiraled out of control when Klaus realized through a flashback scene with his mother that the necklace she gave him only made him weak so he will not trigger the werewolf curse and Mikael will not find out about her infidelity.
Klaus is angered with his mother's deceit. Klaus has been seeking for Mikael's approval all his life but the weakness that Esther gave him only made Mikael hate him more. "You're the author of everything I am," Klaus stated before Esther passed out.
Lenore, who has been performing the spell, suddenly stops and makes strange movements. Hayley asks Lenore if she is okay but the new hybrid is stunned when she saw a mark on the back of Lenore's hand indicating that Esther has jumped into her body.
Then, Esther reveals that has been the plan all along. The Original witch even managed to tempt Hayley with the offer of getting rid of her hybrid status. Klaus and Elijah walks in to see their mother in a different body and to hear about her plan which is to undo the curse she made on her children and give them new bodies.
The ending scene shows Elijah starting to train newbie vampire Gia and Esther, now in Lenore's body, telling Finn how she will show Klaus and Elijah the error of their ways because she is just getting started. "I will systematically destroy everything they hold dear," Esther declared.
Esther further revealed that she will take away her sons' pride, joy and love. "And when they are at their lowest point, in their deepest despair, they will have no choice but to beg me to release them from their pain. And because I love them, I will," Esther stated.
"The Originals" Season 2 will return with episode 4 titled "Live and Let Die" on Monday night, Oct. 27, at 8 p.m. ET on the CW Network.
