Orlando Magic Rookie Aaron Gordon Out Indefinitely With Left Foot Fracture
Aaron Gordon, a rookie forward for the Orlando Magic, is out indefinitely with fracture in his left foot. An MRI exam is expected to determine how critical the fracture is and it is still unclear if the injury will need demand surgery.
Despite being hurt, Gordon appeared in good spirits before their game against the Detroit Pistons on Monday.
“I’ll just figure out how to stay around the game,” Gordon said via The Orlando Sentinel. “Maybe [I’ll] sit in a chair and work on jump hooks and high-release shots. I guess it’s a good time to rest and then be healthy for the rest of the season.”
The 19-year-old Gordon is the youngest player in the National Basketball Association (NBA) but has already shown flashes of brilliance in his first games as a professional basketball player. Last Nov. 7, he scored 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting and grabbed 6 rebounds for his best performance yet in his young NBA career. Gordon is averaging 5.8 points, 3.0 rebounds in 15 minutes of action in the 2014-2015 NBA Season.
The Magic won over the Pistons, 107-93 on Monday for the team’s fifth victory in 12 games played so far this year— not a bad start for a team that only own 23 games out of 82 last season. Nikola Vucevic and Tobias Harris scored 25 and 24 points, respectively to lead the Magic, which has won three of their last four outings.
Orlando head coach Jacque Vaughn knows how difficult it is for a rookie to have the proper mindset when facing tough injuries.
“Overall, it’s a tough thing to deal with, especially for a young guy who is learning the league and trying to find a place on a team and in the league,” Vaughn said in the same article. “So, [it’s] a tough position, but it is part of sports.”
Gordon was drafted 4th overall in the 2014 NBA Draft coming out of Arizona in college. The 6-foot-9 forward is well-known for his athleticism and defensive skills.
