The video of Vsauce in Youtube debuted yesterday and it had begged some really serious questions about owning properties in the outer space and the laws which had to go along with it.

For years, there are multiple agencies "selling" properties in the outer space. Web sites such as lunarregistry.com sell parcels of land in the moon. They even have names of the areas of the moon such as Sea of Vapors which is $18.95 an acre or the "prestigious location" Sea of Tranquility which is $37.50 an acre. Not to mention those others who are selling stars and giving off a certificate to verify the purchase. Star buyers had included Winona Ryder and Nicole Kidman.

How on earth can one buy a lot in the outer space?

Actually the answer is really no. People cannot buy things of the outer space. Come to think of it, before people buy a parcel of land, they check for it, measure and estimate all of its properties and check it if it's real and nobody is just issuing multiple deeds of sale. In the outer space case, authenticity cannot be verified.

For one, NASA does not approve of it and even says that space property is for the use of every man, meaning nobody can own it. The second reason is that nobody can do an ocular inspection of the property and even verify sole proprietorship.

The only way for anyone to own something in the outer space is to have objects or structures in the outer space. So what about the certificates that the registry companies are giving? They are not acknowledged by any agency. You can name a star on the piece of paper but you can never own it. Only the International Astronomical Union can name stars.

One thing that Michael Stevens of Vsauce suggested in the video is that ownership takes away the interest in having one thing developed. If the government or the U.N. allowed space ownership, maybe people would have more advanced technologies as a result of space ownership, or as economists call it, demand.

He goes on to say that incentives are beneficial for people in the long run since it also makes people explore all possibilities and that perhaps we can have space transportations and lodgings.

However, the commenters think otherwise as some of them have noted "Capitalism should only be contained in earth".
