'Outlander' Season 2 spoilers: ‘Surprises’ in the finale; Black Jack almost ‘an ally'
Sam Heughan appears in a new video to talk about the events in the recently aired episode of “Outlander” Season 2. The actor talked about the villain Black Jack and the opportunity Jamie got after the death of a major character.
[Spoiler alert]
Claire (Caitriona Balfe) had to seek Black Jack’s (Tobias Menzies) help in exchange for her assistance for his ailing brother. As a nurse, it was Claire’s compassion for Mary (Rosie Day) that forced her into a deal with the villain.
In a video posted on the YouTube channel of Variety, Heughan (Jamie) describes Black Jack as almost “an ally.” The actor said that reading the relevant scenes from the books, on which the TV series is based, was “very evocative.” He praised the scene in which the villain mourns the death of his brother, and within moments the audience sees the dark side of him.
A big moment for Jamie in “Outlander” Season 2 episode 12 was the surprising moment in which Colum (Gary Lewis) names the former as the guardian of the heir to the MacKenzie clan. Dougal (Graham McTavish) had set his eyes on the position as the clan leader for some time now, but was also prepared to become the guardian of the heir.
Dougal is the actual father of the boy Colum calls son, so as a guardian he would have been satisfied. However, Colum felt that Jamie would be a better leader in the turbulent times ahead, and named him as the guardian for the sake of his people.
Heughan said that his character doesn’t want the position, but he can’t refuse to take on the important responsibility. He said that Jamie will do his best and look after the men entrusted to him.
Only one episode is left in “Outlander” Season 2. Despite the best efforts of the Frasers, the Jacobite Army is headed to Culloden. Heughan said that the episode is almost feature length. He teased that there are “lot of surprises” in the finale.
