'Outlander' season 3 heard on set: 'Lay aloft and loose the mainsail'

“Lay aloft and loose the mainsail!” was heard on the set of “Outlander” season 3, Co-executive Producer Maril Davis teased. The producer has been sharing dialogues heard on the set, and production updates, to help the fans get through Droughtlander. Meanwhile, cast member Caitriona Balfe is not happy about the heat she has to endure in South Africa.

The other line heard on the set is “The pins are out today.” Davis said that one of the lines is from the script, while the other is not. Commenting on her post on Twitter, the fans speculate on what the lines could mean. Davis also shared a picture of sunrise in Cape Town, South Africa.

Balfe (Claire) was very eager to experience the sunshine in the country, but with the temperatures soaring as high as 36 degrees Celsius, the actress is not too pleased about the weather at the moment.

In Glasgow, temperatures go up to 20 digress Celsius on an average in the summer. The producers and the cast members have in the past repeatedly talked about the climate of Scotland, with frequent complaints about the rain. Balfe in particular was looking forward to some sunshine in South Africa while filming for “Outlander” season 3, but it appears that she got a lot more than what she asked for.

The filming locations for the Starz show this time around include Glasgow, Edinburg and Cape Town. The locations scouting team is currently evaluating new places to shoot in South Africa.

Glasgow will be standing in for Boston this year. Tobias Menzies (Frank/ Black Jack Randall) and Balfe have filmed a lot of the flashback scenes in the city. Some of the stills from the next season from this time period have already been released by Starz. Filming in Scotland has wrapped, and the production shifted to South Africa. The cameras will continue to roll for at least the next three months before the cast and crew can enjoy a wrap party.

A new set of characters will be joining the show this year. The new cast members Starz has announced include Gary Young (Mr. Willoughby), Charlie Hiett (Captain Thomas Leonard), Davis Berry (John William Grey), César Domboy (older Fergus), Wil Johnson (Joe Abernathy), Lauren Lyle (Marsali), Hannah James (Geneva Dunsany), Tanya Reynolds (Isobel Dunsany) and John Bell (Young Ian Murray).

“Outlander” season 3 is set to premiere in September. Starz is yet to announce an exact release date.
