‘Outlander’ season 3 will be closer to the books, Diana Gabaldon confirms
Celebrity author Diana Gabaldon, whose books have been adapted into the popular Starz TV series, has confirmed that “Outlander” season 3 is closer to “Voyager.” She also shared a video to help fans get through Droughtlander.
Replying to a fan question online, Gabaldon has confirmed the next season to be “very close” to the books. The statement should come as a relief for fans who are keen to see their favourite scenes come to life on the show.
The producers of the show came under fire last year for major deviations from the book, apart from the criticism about fewer romantic scenes between Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe). Gabaldon in particular was not happy about how they changed the scene where the two main characters were supposed to engrave each other’s names as a mark of true love. Instead, a gift of a dragonfly in amber was exchanged before the final farewell.
The reunion scene in “Outlander” season 3 is something the fans will watch keenly this time around. Many have already advised the producers not to change one letter from the book, at least for this specific scene. With the assurance from Gabaldon, the fans may rest easy for now.
The author is also aware of how difficult it is to wait till September, when the show returns on air. To help fans through Droughtlander, she shared a video online that shows some of the scenes from the first two seasons, with the song “Under pressure” playing in the background.
Meanwhile, Balfe shared some pictures from South Africa. Filming of “Outlander” season 3 continues in Cape Town, and the cast members enjoyed their day off. Heughan also shared a picture from his break recently.
