'Outlander' TV Series: Graham McTavish says Dougal is attracted to 'strong women'
Graham McTavish spoke about his character Dougal from the “Outlander” TV series at the Fan Expo event recently. The actor managed to answer many of the questions from the fans who turned up at the event.
McTavish came to the event wearing a kilt and was “hysterically funny,” SpoilerTV reports. The moderators of the event apparently allowed the members of the audience to ask most of the questions for the actor to answer.
Talking about working on the sets of “Outlander,” McTavish complimented the cast and crew and said that it was “great” to work with them. The actor revealed that Duncan Lacroix (Murtagh) was very funny on the set and the report notes that it is important to have an “easy going group of people” on the set when the long hours of filming can be tiring.
The actor pointed out that some actors tend to cause a bit of “drama” on the set, but this is “never helpful.” McTavish later added that this never happened on the set of the popular TV series and also on the sets of “The Hobbit” movies, in which he played the role of Dwalin.
McTavish was also asked about his character’s attraction towards Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and the actor said that Dougal is attracted to “strong women” and “women from the future,” which explains the character’s fascination with Claire. The actor also said that some people tend to be attracted to those who don’t love them back and described Dougal’s experience with Claire as “frustrating.”
When asked about whether Dougal was a bad guy, McTavish explained that it wasn’t that simple. The primary goal of Dougal on the show is to ensure the restoration of the Stewart monarchy and the character can sometimes be seen as “manipulative” to achieve this goal.
In a previous interview with Zap2it , McTavish said that Dougal was prepared to “push aside people” in order to achieve his goals. The actor revealed that the factor that “supersedes everything” is his quest to protect the clan. The character is also keen on becoming the next laird.
Filming of “Outlander” Season 2 is currently underway in Scotland. The premiere episode of the next season is expected to air sometime in 2016.
