Nashville-based rock singer-songwriter Paul McDonald was eliminated from this week’s Top 8 of “American Idol”, making him the first male contestant voted off from America’s top rated television show since voting began in March.

Joining McDonald at this week’s bottom three this week were Haley Reinhart and Stefano Langone.

With his rendition of “Maggie Mae”, a song requested by Idol judge and this month’s Most Beautiful Woman by People Magazine, the front man of the band, Grand Magnoias has made a ‘grand exit’ from the singing competition, according to Billboard.com.

The song was also the perfect choice for McDonald as he has been closely associated with the contestant, who was once described by “Idol” judge, Steven Tyler as the ‘epitome of a cool dude in a loose mood’.

But McDonald’s elimination can also be considered a surprise with his unique voice and stage presence. He is best known for his two-step walk when performing on stage. McDonald was among the early favorites on the show not only for his unique voice and style but also for his great smile and ‘shiny bright teeth’ repeatedly highlighted in some of his early performances.

Joining McDonald at this week’s bottom three were Haley Reinhart and Stefano Langone. But the Nashville-based singer has reportedly received the fewest number of votes for his rendition of Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock and Roll” from the movie, “Risky Business”.

Be the judge if it was Paul's time to go this week and watch the video.
