Paul Walker was a gem of a person who was involved in lot of charities and helped the needy. After his death, a number of endearing stories about the "Fast and the Furious" actors spread like wildfire on the web. The latest one to touch hearts was when the 40-year-old went ahead and brought a whopping US$ 9000 engagement ring for an unknown military couple who he had briefly met. Reason? They could not afford it and Paul had overheard them talking about it!

The incident took place in 2004 when soldier Kyle Upham and his new wife Kristen were planning to get married. The couple was out shopping in a Santa Barbara jewellery store for a diamond ring. They stumbled upon Paul Walker in the store and Kristen chatted up with him revealing that her would-be-husband had just been back from a tour from Iraq. [See Video Below]

"When he found out Kyle just came back from Iraq - I remember seeing the look in his face. He kind of transformed," said Kristen Upham to CBS on Wednesday. Kristen's heart was stuck on a diamond ring which cost $9000. Since they could not afford to buy the ring, the couple left the store. Yet, the story doesn't end here.

Shortly after leaving the store, they received a call from the store manager to come back to store and collect their ring!

"One of the ladies came out holding a bag and just said, 'Here's your ring.' I think both of our mouths dropped," said Upham.

The military couple were shocked and excited at the gesture but were not aware who was funding the ring as Paul Walker had requested the store manager to keep the present anonymous.

The Uphams happily kept the ring and even suspected that it could be Paul Walker who had presented them with the ring, but could not be certain. It was only after the actor's death that the story employee, Irene King, dished out the secret of Paul Walker.

"He called the manager and he said, 'Umm, the ring that those people are looking at, put it on my tab'," said King to the news channel.

"Soon after that, he just left," added King.

Walker died on the spot on Saturday after his car burst into flames. He is survived by his fifteen year old daughter Meadow Rain Walker.
