Pebble To Launch Smartwatches Armed With A New Software Platform
The Pebble smartwatch is considered by many as the best among the current smart wearables in the industry today. Evidently, the smartwatch arena is getting fiercer and fiercer with the launch of different smart devices which offers unique features. While many consumers await the much anticipated Apple Watch, Pebble is working on something new for consumers and its own followers.
Pebble’s CEO Eric Migicovsky said that the company has sold the one millionth unit of its flagship wearable device in Dec.31 of last year. Its sales has surpassed what is expected of the Pebble watch. Additionally, the CEO reveals that they will be offering a new platform for its upcoming devices, The Verge reports.
Migicovsky also adds that the company will not focus on new apps. Instead, Pebble will be launching “a new framework to use as an interaction model on the watch”. The CEO did not dwell in to more details about the upcoming models and the new software.
The current Pebble Steel sports a metal face which is attached to a leather or steel band. It stands 46 mm tall and 34 mm wide which makes the smartwatch one of the smallest in the wearables arena today.
It comes protected with Corning’s Gorilla glass and boasts a battery which can last up to 5 to 7 days in a single charge. The Pebble is also waterproof up to 5 ATM which allows users to do various activities which involves water such as swimming and even house chores like dish washing.
Report says that there are no presented sales figures for all the Android smartwatches. As for Pebble’s competition, Samsung boasts that it has shipped 800,000 Galaxy Gear devices to various retailers in 2013.
The Pebble Steel, together with the other players in the industry are already bracing for the arrival of Apple’s most anticipated smartwatch to beat, the Apple Watch. Apple has already confirmed that its first smartwatch will be released this coming April.
Looking back, Pebble has sought help from Kickstarter in 2012 and has originally asked a $100,000 funding. Tech Spot reports that the campaign was so successful that it has gained around $10.2 million.
