‘Pitch Perfect 2’ star Hailee Steinfeld compares being an actor and a singer
Academy-nominated star Hailee Steinfeld explained how she adjusted from being an actor to a singer. The artist said her transition was due to personal reasons.
In an interview, Steinfeld told Entertainment Weekly that she had the freedom to express herself more in music compared to movies. The pop singer said she have always wanted to share an “incredibly message” that meant something to her but felt that writing music was “sort of terrifying.”
“With acting, I’ve never given anyone the opportunity to get to know me personally—I choose a character that I love and identify with and I hope that there’s something in there that someone can relate to. But with music, [it’s] putting my own name on my own story,” she said.
Talking about the naysayers who think that actors can’t become musicians, Steinfeld said she never worried that people won’t take her seriously. The singer believed that she would always choose both. Steinfeld credited her friends for teaching her the importance of having self-love and self-confidence to survive the industry.
Steinfeld showed her acting skills in the movies “Romeo and Juliet,” “Barely Lethal” and “Pitch Perfect 2.” In August, the 18-year-old star moved to singing with her debut single, “Love Myself,” which now has more than 36 million views on YouTube.
“Love Myself” is about being empowered on your own and confident with your decisions, Steinfeld told Noisey in October.
“It has such a bold message and it resonates with me so much because I feel as though I’ve really learned in the last couple of years how important it is to have that kind of self-confidence and self-love and self-empowerment. I've always been incredibly moved and inspired by music, so I was excited by the idea of being part of a song that can make people feel something,” the singer said.
Meanwhile, Steinfeld is set to reprise her role Emily in “Pitch Perfect 3” on 2017. She has also been busy filming for “Term Life,” “Besties” and the movie adaptation of “The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight.”
Steinfeld will debut her first EP “Haiz” on Friday, alongside the release of Justin Bieber’s “Purpose” and One Direction’s “Made in the A.M.”
