Apple's iOS has another game under its belt as Plants vs. Zombies 2 has been reported to launch exclusively on iOS devices iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch starting July 18 as a free download.

GameSpot reports that players can expect an entirely new game, as the sequel is not merely an improvement or an extension of its predecessor but rather a redesigned game with new worlds, zombies, plants, levels, and features, such as a time travel mechanic.

What's even better about the game is that, aside from being a free download, the levels and zombies in the game are also free, with the in-game purchases being limited to upgrades and other items.

"We will be launching first exclusively with Apple but we have lots of plans underway! More news to follow! PvZ has always been a game that we want to bring to everyone... and we will," according to PopCap's official statement quoted by GameSpot.

More plans underway hopefully means bringing the mobile game to the Android platform, as this is another major and much-awaited game that has released only for the iOS, Injustice: Gods Among Us being the other one for the year.

And since Plants vs. Zombies was originally a game that first launched on the PC and Mac, as well as the Xbox Live, PSN, and Nintendo DS, PopCap's plans should also include these platforms down the road.

DOA 5 Ultimate goes to F2P

Tecmo Koei's Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate: Core Fighters, slated to come out September 3 this year, is now available as a free-to-play game.

Joystiq reports that the F2P version allows you to play on the tutorial and training modes, but you have to buy the full retail to get the story mode. You can also choose from four playable characters, Ryu Hayabusa, Kasumi, Ayane, and Hayate, who will battle with the opponents, similar to the ones in the full version.

Since it's an F2P game, expect in-game purchases, ranging from additional characters at $4 to buying the story mode at $15 if you're not planning on pursuing the game on the console.

The good thing here is that you can still battle with your friends online whether they are using the F2P or full version, save those who are playing the original DOA 5 or DOA 5 Plus on PS Vita.

It is still planned to release on the PS3 on September 3, but reports have stated that Tecmo is now negotiating with Microsoft for an Xbox 360 version release.

Dark Souls 2 release date revealed

It seems like not all games can wait for the E3 2013 to make any official announcements, as Namco Bandai's game info was revealed via a banner at the LA Convention Center.

According to Videogamer, the banner had the release window of March 2014, meaning it won't be part of any launch titles on the console, as it will release months after the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are expected to reach the market.

While this may be disappointing to hardcore fans who have been waiting for the game since it was first announced last December, Dark Souls 2 seems like a game worth the wait.

According to Digital Spy, not only will the game retain its high difficulty quality while being more straightforward, the PC edition of the game will also be improved compared to the first iteration, ensuring that PC users will not miss out on anything this time around.
