As Psy's Gangnam style hit one billion views over the Internet, it was not only young people who were seen hopping and swaying to the dance craze. Even politicians and other non-showbiz celebrities were spotted dancing Gangnam Style ala-Psy.

The song, named after the affluent Gangnam District in Seoul, South Korea, ironically hit 1 billion views on Dec 21, 2012 at about 10:50 a.m. EST, fueling speculations that one of the portents of the world coming to an end that day was the mega monster dance created by Psy.

Here are some of the politicians who were seen the horse trot.

1. U.S. President Barack Obama

Hollywood Life reports that U.S. President Barack Obama, who just won a second and last four-year term and recognised as Time Magazine's Person of the Year for 2012, likes the Korean star's dance and even does the Gangnam style jig - but only in front of daughters Sasha and Malia.

While the first black American president has mastered the dance, the report said the two daughters, aged 11 and 14, are totally embarrassed by their father's moves.

"They're cooler than I am. There are things I like that they think are cheesy, like Gangnam Style, I love that, People magazine quoted the president.

Like their daughters, Michelle Obama is also a little embarrassed by her husband's terpsichorean skills. However, since he would not do it for anyone, save for his red-faced daughters, impersonators had a field day creating an MTV of the president and the first lady moving to Gangnam style.

The impersonators, Reggie Brown and Dalila Ali Rajah Mitch, have apparently done a good job that its YouTube posting has logged 9.3 million views, which, however, pales in comparison to the original Psy video.

Psy actually danced his famous strut before Mr Obama at the White House's annual Christmas party on Dec 9 and even got to shake the president's hands. Mr Obama also forgave the Korean singer for a 2004 hit that advocated the killing of Americans.

2. New Zealand Prime Minister John Key

Mr Key danced Gangnam Style during his radio appearance at Edge Radio on Dec 19. Besides dancing, the prime minister also sang Santa Claus is Coming in the same station.

3. Former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd

The former prime minister even called his moves Ruddman Style when he appeared on Sunrise breakfast TV on Dec 18 to announce the winner of a T-shirt design competition for his forthcoming campaign for the seat of Griffith, Queensland.

4. United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon

The UN official reportedly called it the force for world peace.

5. BBC anchor Rico Hizon

BBC Business News anchor Rico Hizon interviewed Psy on Dec 4 when the 34-year-old Korean pop was on his Singapore tour. Psy said his song was inspired by Western music and his name is actually short for psycho.

6. OUSA New President Francisco Hernandez

This young and promising New Zealand politician saw the potential of Gangnam Style as a campaign material in the run-up to the Otago University Student Association student council election just weeks after the song was released. He changed some lyrics, kept the catchy tune and made an MTV aptly titled Frangnam Style. The result: Mr Hernandez, a Masteral student (and my nephew) was elected on Sept 28 OUSA president for 2013, getting 1,163 votes out of the total 3,620 votes cast.
