Luis Suarez scored two goals, while Daniel Sturridge accounted one for himself accompanied with two assists as Liverpool defeated Sunderland on Sunday in the English Premier League.

Sturridge opened the scoring at the 28th minute after skipper Steven Gerrard delivered a cross that was able to find the former, placing it at the bottom right corner.

After 8 minutes, Sturridge turned from scorer to provider when he unselfishly laid-off the ball to a surging Suarez on the left-hand side of goal, when the Sunderland goalkeeper Keiren Westwood committed his way.

Emanuele Giacherini, on the other hand, gave hope to the Black Cats as he was able to score on the rebound after Reds keeper, Simon Mignolet, failed to handle a powerful attempt from distance by midfielder Ki Sung-Yueung.

The scoring galore for the Reds was not over as Sturridge recorded his second assist on the break to whom else? But his striking partner Suarez at the 89th minute mark.

"Luis gives me angles to play in and for me it's about getting assists as well as scoring. It's about the team winning games," Sturridge told liverpoolfc.com.

"If someone's in a better position, you put them in and allow them to score the goal."

"It's great to have Luis back. He gives us options and he's one of the best forwards in the league. We form a good partnership."

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers was happy with what he saw on the pitch on Sunday and was all praises of his striking duo's dynamic performance.

"I'm not sure there's two better in the league, in all honesty," said Rodgers.

"Those two are right up there with the best in the country. You saw that today."

Rodgers emphasised that he has preached the players to be themselves on the pitch without sacrificing team play, which have paid dividends for them.

"What we ask them to do is make sure that they can be their individual but none of them are bigger than the group and the team," he added.

"You saw that today - Daniel got one and set up two. Towards the end, the counter-attack, Luis played in Daniel and got in the box to get the return pass."

"Both of them have the hunger to score goals but what's more important is that if one of them can't score, they set up the other one. That's what they have done."
