Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata has been the subject of talks since the transfer window has opened.

There were earlier reports stating that Chelsea had offered him as a leverage to sign Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho brushed off speculations to that effect indicating that the rumours were untrue and that Mata is an important player.

The Spaniard was not named even as a substitute in the 0-0 draw against United on Monday.

Several reports indicate that Mata's father was spotted at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night when the Gunners defeated Fenerbahce to make it to the group stages.

This may further appeal Mata to switch sides as he seems to be below the pecking order with Oscar, Schurrle and De Bruyne, favoured in the attacking midfield section.

When Wenger was asked about what he thinks of the Blues' two-time Player of the Year, he said "I like him."

The Gunners manager is paying close attention to the midfielder's situation.

"I watched the game last night and I've heard, like you, Juan Mata could be on the market."

"There is, anyway, in England a reluctance to sell to each other."
