Preschool Teacher Sends Parents A Note Indicating that their Children Stink
A preschool teacher of the Build Academy located in Buffalo, New York, sent letters to certain parents living in an underprivileged neighborhood, through their children, aged 3 and 4, ordering them to take action on their children's poor hygiene, indicating that such is a "health and safety concern."
The note stated: "Several children aged 3-4 are coming to school (sometimes daily) with soiled, stained, or dirty clothes. Some give off unpleasant smells and some appear unclean and unkempt."
"It is a health and safety concern. It also makes it difficult for me to be close to them or even want to touch them. Enough said."
Enraged relatives reacted to the unnamed female teacher's antics, challenging her to show empathy to people living below the poverty line.
A grandmother of one student, Kimberly Wells, thought that the letter taught kids to "segregate other kids."
"That's not right," Wells told news.co.au.
"That's not what we're in school for."
"The first thing my granddaughter asked me was, 'does my teacher think I stink?' I told her, 'no, you don't'."
"She could have called the parent on the phone. She could have had a meeting at the school face-to-face."
"I did try to talk to the teacher about this and she didn't want to hear anything I had to say."
The issue has yet to be resolved with school superintendent Pamela Brown stating that while she have not read the letter yet, it is primordial for schools to show respect to children and their families.
