The Major League Soccer season has just ended on October 27 and New York Red Bulls attacking midfielder Tim Cahill is open to a possibility of going on loan to maintain his fitness level ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

A number of clubs have been reported to show interest in acquiring the Australian on a short-term basis.

"In the last loan period, three or four clubs came in and one was really close to signing me," Cahill told The Sun.

"It was from the Premier League and it went all the way up to the wire. It was to stay fit."

Cahill signed and played for Everton FC for 8 years, under the reigns of ex-manager David Moyes, and a move to Old Trafford may be a possibility as the latter seems to develop a special attachment with his players.

First, he brought in Phil Neville as a part of his staff. Then, it was Marouane Fellaini's turn, and it's not a secret that he also wants Leighton Baines wearing a red uniform.

Ultimately, however, it will still be Cahill's call on which club should serve his purpose.

"I'm definitely going to get a lot of shouts again now and there will always be people knocking at the door," he added.

"But I have to assess where my body's going to be for the next World Cup for Australia and also my fitness leading in Brazil."
