‘Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition’ Gets New Gameplay Video
“Puzzle & Dragons” has proven to be a very popular game title for mobile devices, thanks to the game’s mixing of RPG and puzzle elements that have not only reinvigorated puzzle games, but have also inspired other puzzle roleplaying games. Nintendo recently announced that the popular puzzle game will have soon star the company’s popular mascot in the “Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition” and a gameplay video was released to help give fans a primer for the game.
Though the video below is in Japanese, Siliconera was able to detail the gist of what the video is about. The game’s story includes Super Mario love interest Princess Peach, once again getting kidnapped by the Italian plumber’s arch-nemesis Bpwser, but instead of the usual platforming, they now have to save her “Puzzle & Dragons” style.
Gameplay is very similar to previous “Puzzle & Dragons” games, using puzzle gameplay normally seen in a title like “Candy Crush” as a battle system against enemies. Unlike other “Puzzle & Dragons” games however, “Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition” will have no timer for battles, which will allow for more time to strategize against enemies, though one could argue that this removes a sense of urgency to the battles. Items can also be used to power up characters.
Like in most roleplaying games the “Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition” will have players forming a party of characters. Each character has specific leadership skills in the game, so players will have to choose a leader that can work for a certain specific battle. Assist characters will also be available and can help the leaders and the whole party in battle.
There also appears to be a host of familiar worlds that most “Super Mario” fans will recognise. Fans can expect to see the Mushroon Kingdom in the game, along with Toad’s House and presumably Bowser’s Castle.
“Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition” will be coming to Japan on April 29 and North America on May 22 for the Nintendo 3DS. The main Nintendo website is also offering a version of the game that comes with “Puzzle & Dragons Z” which will have players going against the five sky dragons to help rebuild the world.
