Rafael Nadal Has Returned To Training After Appendix Surgery
Rafael Nadal has started training following his successful laparoscopic appendectomy back in November. Nadal took to social media and posted a picture of his preparations for the upcoming 2015 season.
"Very happy to be training again," Nadal wrote on Facebook. "Excited to prepare for the next season."
The current World No. 3 has had a substandard 2014 season. He suffered a back injury when he played Stan Wawrinka in the finals of the 2014 Australian Open. During the Wimbledon, he injured his wrist, resulting to his early exit in the tournament. In early October, Nadal suffered appendicitis, which made him pull out of the remaining ATP tournaments including the season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.
During an interview with DPA a week before he went back to training, Nadal has said that he remains positive in the upcoming 2015 season. He said that his main goal is to make sure that he doesn't go through the same injury-plagued 2013 season.
Nadal has been known to bounce back and climb up the world rankings again effortlessly, just like he did when he came back strong after a long layoff in 2013. He capped his impressive 2013 comeback with his win over Novak Djokovic at the 2013 U.S. Open to win his 13th Grand Slam trophy.
Meanwhile, fans have expressed their delight to see their tennis icon back in training. They all chant in unity, saying that they are looking forward for Nadal's healthy return in 2015 and adding that tennis is not the same without him.
Nadal is scheduled to take part in the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, where he is a two-time defending champion, in January. After the exhibition in Abu Dhabi, he will reportedly play in the ATP Tour event in Doha and will compete in the 2015 Australian Open afterward.
Nadal said via The Sports Review that he is "focussed" on competing at the first Grand Slam tournament. He recalled last year's finals as an emotional tournament for him because it was when he injured his back. Nadal said it is important to win and he needs to be 100 percent fit and healthy to achieve his goals.
