Rafael Nadal: Winning cures everything
Rafael Nadal of Spain is in a bit of a roll in recent tournaments and appears to have mentally recovered from the struggles in the last two years. The former World No. 1 stated in a recent interview that he is playing with more confidence in the last few tournaments and believes that winning will cure everything as he tries to return to top form and be considered among the elite players in the ATP Tour.
“All the victories, tough victories are important. What give me confidence, well, being honest always for everybody, the victories are the best medicine possible,” Nadal shared to Tennis World USA. “But at the same time, for me, the most important thing is doing a lot of time this year, I was not able to fight the way that I wanted to fight, and I was not able to try to find solutions on court when the things are not going well, because I was a little bit blocked mentally.”
Nadal went on to state that the biggest improvement to his game recently is that he has rediscovered the confidence to be able to play his game again, this time struggling less on the mental aspect.
Nadal is currently playing at the 2015 BNP Paribas Masters where he advanced to the Round of 16 after beating Lukas Rosol of Czech Republic in straights sets, 6-2 6-2. Nadal will face 11th-seed Kevin Anderson of South Africa in the next round and has on the same side of the draw Stan Wawrinka and Novak Djokovic as rivals.
Nadal holds a record of 56-18 for the current ATP season but has performed well in the last three tournaments before playing in Paris. He made it to the final of the 2015 China Open but lost to Djokovic, 2-6 2-6; the semifinal of the 2015 Shanghai Masters, where he lost to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, 4-6 6-0 5-7; and the final of the 2015 Swiss Indoors Basel, where he was defeated by Roger Federer, 4-6 6-0 5-7.
