Fans of the long-running survival-horror franchise "Resident Evil" had a reason to cheer when the developer Capcom had announced the Raid Mode for the upcoming instalment, "Resident Evil: Revelations 2." Raid Mode is a name for the game's much celebrated co-op mode, which was supposed to have online functionality. However, Capcom has now revealed that the online component of the Raid Mode will not be available at launch.

Gamespot reports that the game will ship without an online co-op mode. The Raid Mode of "Revelations 2" will still be playable offline, either through solo play or split-screen co-op on the same system. Capcom justified this decision by stating that the team has been busy finishing the story mode. Although that is now complete, getting it done in time meant putting the co-op part on the backburner.

Unlike its predecessor, "Resident Evil: Revelations 2" will be episodic in nature and the entire game will be spread out over four instalments. The game will be released with the first episode on Feb. 24; however, the online functionality will be added much later in the final episode, which is scheduled for March 17. The retail disc of the game will launch on the same date and will contain every episode, including the online co-op functionality.

The Raid Mode will have 54 missions graded across three difficulty levels initially through Episode 1, according to Co-Optimus. The second instalment will add 36 missions, whereas the third and fourth episodes will deliver another 36 and 68 missions. The entire collection will add a total of 13 characters over four episodes. Two additional characters (Hunk and Wesker) will only be available through the retail disc, digital Complete Season or alternatively as a part of the paid DLC.

The mode itself has been rehauled over what fans already experienced in the previous game. Gamers should expect new additions such as weapons and a host of new character skills that significantly affect gameplay. Furthermore, each weapon will feature customisation accessories that increase the killing power and other capabilities. Character customisation will be improved upon to allow each gamer to make a character that stands out during online play.
