'Rick and Morty' season 3: Rick vs Morty storyline to gain steam going forward
"Rick and Morty" season 3 will progress the ongoing Rick vs Morty storyline after teasing a rivalry between the grandfather and grandson during the opening episode which aired on April Fools' Day. The second episode titled "Rickmancing the Stone" is due to air in the summer.
The first episode titled "The Rickshank Rickdemption" saw a steady progression from pending season two storylines. After the Galactic Federation invaded Planet Earth, Morty and his sister, Summer, summoned the Council of Ricks in pursuit of their imprisoned grandfather. Rick C-137, in typical Rick fashion, managed to transport his mind onto one of the other Ricks before killing the rest of the Ricks after crashing a council meeting. Rick escaped the clutches of the Galactic Federation, returning to Earth to reunite with his family.
However, the episode also teased disdain that Morty had developed for his genius grandfather. When Morty and his sister set out to rescue Rick, it was evident that Summer was more enthused about the task. “Who's stupid now, bi*ch?" reacted an annoyed Morty after he shot Rick in the head with a fake gun. After realizing that it was a fake gun, Morty mumbled "Uh, good thing I saw that note.” (Watch Video Below)
Rick and Morty season 3 spoilers: Morty upset about folks splitting up?
That wasn't the only moment in the opening episode of "Rick and Morty season 3" that teased an impending conflict. As Den of Geek aptly recalls, "there was also the whole subplot of Morty explaining to Summer that Rick is hardly a hero. He bails on things and leaves whole worlds behind, including the original universe this show took place in, which is now the post-apocalyptic Cronenberg world."
To cap things off, the episode ended with Rick telling Morty that making Jerry and tht government "go away" was all part of his master plan. Though Morty was happy to see the Galactic Federation leave Earth, he wasn't thrilled about Rick instigating a divorce between Jerry and Beth. It shouldn't come as a surprise if Morty turns on Rick at some stage during the third season.
