Rihanna didn’t really like her Maori tattoo that she got in New Zealand earlier in October. The Grammy-winning songstress impressed her Kiwi fans when she had her new art inked the traditional way, with a mallet and a chisel. However, it appeared she was regretting the tattoo.

The 25-year-old star’s Maori tattoo was done by tattooists Inia Taylor and Tiki Taane in Auckland. The session was captured in a YouTube video uploaded by Moko Ink studio on October 8.

According to Tiki, her hand tattoo was based on hope, dreams, and aspirations, describing the tattoo session as a “real personal, private moment” between the star and the tattooists.

She agreed to have the session recorded and uploaded online to raise awareness about traditional Maori and Polynesian tattoos.

“What we put online was just enough... to educate people about a beautiful traditional style of tattooing that has been in our family for hundreds of years,” Tiki told Sunday News after putting the footage online.

Although Rihanna proudly showed off her finished tattoo afterwards, was apparently did “not absolutely love” the ink.

She has had the tattoo covered with another design on Sunday while staying in the Dominican Republic. Tattoo artist Bang Bang McCurdy and Cally-Jo of Bang Bang NYC flew to the country to cover Rihanna’s new ink.

“It’s a hard thing when you get a tattoo and not absolutely love it,” Bang Bang told E! News. “It’s uncomfortable to have something on your hand, especially when it’s in such a visible spot, and she’s such a visible person”

The cover-up job took five hours to complete as the tattoo artists keep drawing and changing designs that would complement the previous existing design.

“The inspiration was henna art, we wanted something really decorative, feminine and sexy. We thought that was the closest in style where we could shift and make it look decorative.”

As for the finished product, “Ri flipped out!” the artist said. “Absolutely loved it, loved it!”
