Rihanna to Perform and Receive First Ever Icon Award at the 2013 American Music Awards
In two days, the world will witness the 2013 American Music Awards (AMA), which will take place in Los Angeles on November 24. While a lot is scheduled to happen during the Awards night event, there is one singer who will be honoured with the special AMA Icon Award for her iconic achievements in her career. Any guesses? It's none other than the Barbados beauty Rihanna.
The award is feted to those who take the local music genre to the international level and excel in it. The "Pour It Up" singer has just done that. Rihanna released seven successful albums in past seven years, gave more than ten number-one singles on various music charts and also bagged a whopping six Grammy awards. Rihanna is just 25, but her achievements are much more than that. The singer has sold 50 million albums in sales and 180 million digital tracks too worldwide.
Rihanna's producer Larry Klein is excited about the Icon Award of the R&B singer and says the she deserves it completely.
"The first-ever Icon Award was created to honor an artist whose body of work has made a profound influence over pop music on a global level," said Klein in a statement. "Rihanna's iconic and innovative sound has enabled her to become one of the most influential and best-selling artists of all time."
RiRi will be the first artist to be named an AMA Icon at the American Music Awards. While RiRi's award is announced earlier, all other awards will be announced on the same day during the ceremony. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis leads the list of nominees with six nods. Check out complete nominee list here.
Rihanna will also give a live performance on the show. Other artists performing on AMA awards night are Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, One Direction, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Imagine Dragons, Ke$ha and TLC!
The awards will be aired live on live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, California and can be seen on NBC.
