Rihanna Slammed By The English Indie Rock Band ‘The Vaccines’ [PHOTOS]
English indie rock band called "The Vaccines" took an insulting swipe at the pop superstar Rihanna by saying that the singer is not a real artist for failing to compose her own material. A member of the rock band claimed that the "We Found Love" hit maker is just the front for a large team of songwriters and producers. The British rockers insist that Rihanna lacks artistic credibility because all she does is sing the songs that were penned by other people.
"Rihanna isn't an artist. She has 15 writers, 15 songwriters and 15 producers all fighting for space on her albums and she's the face of it," guitarist Freddie Cowan said. "I have nothing against it, but I don't want to be associated with it," Cowan added. When asked what he thinks about Rihanna's collaboration with Coldplay for the single "Princess of China," Freddie Cowan suggested that it lacked some artistic merit due to the presence of the beauty from Barbados.
As a result, the rock band will most likely not follow the footsteps of Coldplay by collaborating with Rihanna in order to boost album sales. Freddie Cowan also claimed that when Chris Martin teamed up with Rihanna for the "Princess of China" song, the band Coldplay was only doing it for commercial reasons.
"I've never heard that song but it's Coldplay. They'll do whatever they can to be the biggest band on earth, to be bigger than U2," Cowan said. "They do it really well and they've never put out a bad album so hats off to them. I have nothing against those collaborations because I don't feel you can judge people, but I don't think I'll ever be involved in something like that. It needs artistic merit," Cowan further added.
Despite Freddie Cowan's vow to steer clear of the sell-out profile-raising schemes, the band's guitarist may have forgotten that their band already did that by working with supermodel Kate Moss. The Vaccines and the famous catwalk idol collaborated for a Rimmel TV advertisement just last year. Meanwhile, The Vaccines' new album called "Come of Age" will be released on September 3.
