Rio 2016 Olympics: French speed walker poops on shorts & collapses midway 50 km race
If Japanese pole vaulter Hiroki Ogita failed to qualify for the finals of the pole vault because of the bulge in front of his shorts, a French speed walker ended last because of the unwanted matter in the back of his shorts. Yohann Diniz apparently had an unexpected fecal release while speed walking the 50-kilometre race on Friday.
The untimely poop inside his shorts was the result of a nasty stomach ailment that midway, Diniz collapsed and needed help. The New York Post reports the unsightly and smelly accident caused the French athlete to finish last, six minutes behind the winner.
In his attempt not to let the crap stand in the way of a medal, Diniz shoved a sponge inside his shorts to soak up the wet brown fecal matter, reports Deadspin.com. Because he had little choice since he wanted to finish the race, Diniz threw the dirty sponge off toward the crowd and then toppled over.
He finished 3:46:43, way off his world-record speed walk of 3:32:33 for the 50-km race Diniz set at the 2014 European Athletics Championships and the 3:35:26 track walk for the 50,000 metres events he set in 2011 by breaking the 2000 record of Thierry Toutain.
However, it appears, stomach ailment is Diniz’s waterloo because at the Beijing 2008 Olympics, he was forced to withdraw from the 50 km walking race at 30 km for pain in the tummy and thigh. Diniz’s other medical woes, besides unexpected bowel movement due to a stomach ailment, is persistent pain in his inguinal ligament which would require a surgery soon.
