Roger Federer News: Swiss Great Slams Umpire’s Conduct In Wake Of Alleged Row With Stan Wawrinka
Roger Federer had a row with fellow compatriot and Davis Cup teammate Stan Wawrinka following their semi-final clash at the 2014 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in the O2 Arena in London on November 15. Wawrinka had been seen in a video footage looking disturbed by Roger's wife Mirka's alleged heckling. In the wake of the alleged row, a new report claims that Roger has criticised umpire Cedric Mourier's conduct for giving an interview and confirming that Mirka indeed heckled Wawrinka during the semi-final match.
Mourier reportedly had an interview with Swiss news outlet 20 minutes and said that he noticed Stan looking upset. Mourier asked Stan what was wrong. Stan said that Mirka talked to him. Mourier was quoted saying that Stan was upset by Mirka.
"The umpire is not allowed to do an interview in the first place, whether he mentions my wife's name or not, it doesn't matter," Roger said via The Telegraph Sport. "Everything has been said and it's totally relaxed."
Roger further shed light on the issue. The 17-time Grand Slam champion said that he and Stan talked immediately after the match. Roger said that they were old enough to discuss things in a relaxed manner. He added there were no hard feelings between him and Stan. He said that they were friend and not foes.
As for Stan, the 2014 Australian Open champion said that he was aware things like that are sometimes bound to happen. Stan said that the important thing was that they he and Roger decided to talk things out right away and didn't let any dispute break them.
In an interview with Inside Tennis earlier this year, Roger has spoken good things about Mirka. Roger said that Mirka has always been supportive of him, going to his practice and matches. For the Swiss great, every wife is important and Mirka is no different. He said that Mirka has been a very important person in his life.
