Rooney Rues Rough Returns
Wayne Rooney has expressed his dissatisfaction with the tight scheduling of games at this point of the calendar and has suggested for a much more spaced out round of fixtures in the years to come.
"You do lose a lot of quality from both teams and the second half was a bit scrappy", Rooney told reporters when describing the stalemate against Tottenham Hotspurs. Rooney is the current joint top scorer for his club, along with Robin van Persie, with eight goals in the league.
Manchester United FC will travel to Stoke City FC for the first match of the New Year and there they would hope to extend their unbeaten run of matches to ten. Last year the team was participating in four competitions as a result there was not much time in between any two matches. That resulted in exposing the lack of death in the Red Devil's squad. They could not get the desired results with so many matches to play. This year in the last couple of months Manchester United have participated in just one competition, this has led them to manage their limited resources in a much better way.
With enough gaps between matches Manchester United FC went on a six matches unbeaten run. When they were having to play four Barclays Premier League matches in about ten days there was a possibility that the lack of depth, especially in the defensive side of play, might resurface. To their credit they have not lost a match so far in this mad rush of fixtures and have held on to the third position in the league table with a three point advantage over the next team.
With the FA Cup coming just round the corner, the manager Louis van Gaal will be able to test the depth of his squad once more. Before that he will most definitely bring in defensive reinforcements that will add quality to a side gaining in confidence with each match day.
