Rory McIlroy, Cesc Fabregas To Feature In Andy Murray Film; Pharrell Williams, Gordon Ramsay And Britney Spears Audition For A Role
British no. 1 Andy Murray might be used to having budding tennis players to imitate his tennis prowess on court, but having big stars wanting to play the role of the Scot tennis superstar is likely to be an alien idea. Big names from both entertainment and sporting realms are queuing to appear as part of Channel 4's "Stand Up To Cancer" fundraising telethon later this month, according to Radio Times.
Singer Pharrell Williams and famous chef Gordon Ramsay are auditioning against each other to play the role of the former Wimbledon champion in next month's screening. Apart from Williams and Ramsay, Britney Spears is also auditioning for the role of Murray's girlfriend Kim Sears.
High-profile names don't stop there because big names in sports are also set to be featured in the Andy Murray film. Cesc Fabregas, Chelsea's new acquire who has recently made a blistering start to the Premier League season, will be featured in the film along with the world no. 1 professional golfer Rory McIlroy. The 25-year-old golfer who is fresh from helping Europe take home the Ryder Cup title will also play his part in the film to fight against cancer.
"It is astonishing that we got all these massive names for a film which really works. It's hilarious," a spokesman for Channel 4 has admitted excitement. Thus far, director Richard Ayoade, from comedy show the "IT Crowd," will decide on the cast shortly.
Andy Murray is currently vying for a spot in the upcoming ATP World Finals in London, which only features the top eight world ranked tennis players. Thus far, Murray is ranked ninth in the ATP Race to London following his success in China, but he is still tailing the eighth-place Milos Raonic by 175 points. Murray begins his campaign in the Shanghai Masters against Teymuraz Gabashvili of Georgia on Tuesday.
Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are already qualified on November's ATP World Finals at the O2 Arena in London. Meanwhile, Murray and his rivals still have chances to ensure qualification for the event.
